Over the past few months I’ve tried out some new products since I recently ran out of a lot of my skin care. I’ve been going by some recommendations from my favourite bloggers, and just from perusing the aisles of the drugstore. I really like the routine I have right now. Before I get to the products, let’s talk a bit about my skin type. I have normal to combination skin, which tends more toward dryness than oily. My skin is quite sensitive, but I usually only get hormonal breakouts. As long as I take care of my skin, keeping it hydrated and avoid using anything abrasive, it stays happy.
The Body Shop, Nutriganics Softening Cleansing Gel Oil. I really like using this is the mornings. It took a bit to get used to, since I’ve been using foaming cleansers or gentle exfoliators in the mornings for so long, but I really like it now. I use about a nickel-sized amount and apply it to my face when it’s dry, then add water to emulsify and clean off. Afterwards I am left with my face feeling soft and clean (by not stripped).
Kiehl’s, Ultra Facial Toner. Next comes toner. I really like this one because it is not an astringent, does not contain alcohol and actually adds moisture to my skin rather than removing it, which your traditional toner would.
Olay Fresh Effects, Bright On Schedule! Eye Awakening Cream. In regards to the formula, it’s good, but not the best that I’ve used. But it does have a metal tip applicator, which is heaven or tired eyes in the morning. And bonus, this is less than $15, which is a fraction of most of the eye creams on the market today.
Indeed Labs, Hydraluron Moisture Serum. This stuff really is as amazing as everyone says it is. If you follow Caroline Hirons (the skin care queen) at all, then you’ve definitely heard of this. This really does give my skin that hit of moisture that I need. When I first applied it, I wasn’t sure I would like it, because it’s not a cream so much as a jelly, which was different from the serums I had been using beforehand. It really does sink into the skin though and doesn’t feel sticky or tacky when I add my moisturizer. Oh, and bonus, this is only $24.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart.
Yes To Cucumbers, Soothing Daily Calming Moisturizer. Last step for the morning is moisturizer. This moisturizer is my first foray into the Yes To range, which now that I think about is really surprising. I have been wanting to try products from their range for years, but never have. I discovered that the Shoppers closest to our house actually carries a lot of the brand, so I will be trying more in the future. As for this moisturizer, I am really happy with it. The smell isn’t my favourite, but it is really soothing on my skin and helps me to stay hydrated through out the day.
What’s in your skin care routine? I’d love to hear what your skin is loving right now.
