makeupgeekshadowsIf you have ever watched beauty video from an American YouTuber, then you have probably heard of Makeup Geek eyeshadows. And you’ve probably tried them before, and are wondering why I’m only talking about them now. After months and months of hearing people like Jaclyn Hill and KathleenLights (among many others) rave about them, I decided to finally try them out. I decided to only get a small Z-palette, because though there are so many gorgeous shades, there were only 9 that I really, really loved right now. If you are a fan of bold and bright colours for your shadows, Makeup Geek is definitely a great and inexpensive option. However, I’m more of a neutral shadows girl, and I wanted to try and find ones that were different from what I already own.

Shimma Shimma, one of the most popular of the line is a gorgeous metallic champagne. It’s perfect for an inner-corner highlight or in the center of the lid to make it pop. Beaches and Cream is matte beige with a hint of peach. This is a really great transition colour, and better suited to me than the popular Peach Smoothie. Barcelona Beach, a medium brown, is another great matte shade. This has become one of my favourite crease shades.

Unexpected is described as a ‘pale pink brown’, but I would say it’s closer to a grey-purple. This is another great matte crease shade. Moondust is a metallic silver taupe. This is definitely a ‘me’ shade. Prom Night is a pale, shimmery purple. It may not technically be a neutral shade, but I love the shimmer and the pale purple shade. Mesmerized, which is one of the foiled eyeshadows , is a gorgeous bronzed taupe. It’s actually quite similar to the L’Oreal Infallible Bronzed Taupe, but with purple undertones. Grandstand, another foiled shadow, is described as being a ‘medium rose gold’, but to me it’s definitely closer to copper.

Overall, I really love these shadows. They are velvety soft, decently pigmented, and long-lasting (when I use a primer). I wouldn’t say that they are comparable to my favourite Urban Decay shadows, but for 5.99 (US) they are really great. I can definitely see myself purchasing more in the future (especially since Jaclyn Hill is working on creating shades, and they are supposed to be out later this year).

Have you tried any Makeup Geek eyeshadows? What do you think?
