For the most part, my hair is quite easy to manage. While that might annoy others with difficult hair, I feel like I have earned this manageability. When I was younger (from about 3 to 10), my hair was awful to deal with. It was straight on top, and then really curly underneath, and frizzy all over. I used to cry when my mom would brush through my hair because it was so tangled, and I had a really sensitive scalp. When I was about 12 or 13, it changed to become a mix of wave and curl (thank you, puberty), and although I really didn’t know how to style it yet, it was starting to become easier to deal with. Within the past six years or so, I feel like I have figured out my hair, and as the years go on, it becomes easier and easier to style. Part of the manageability has to do with my hair texture itself and my knowledge, but a lot of it has to do with the products that I use. I am always trying new products, trying to find the perfect balance of smoothness, volume, and shine, while also not being too heavy since I love to layer my products. I just may have discovered the perfect product.
A few months ago, I started trying Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment. Advertised as the one-stop-shop for perfect hair, this lightweight cream promises to give volume, smoothness, conditioning, strengthening, and polish. The first time I used it, I was expecting nice, smooth hair, but I was completely blown away. I was left with straighter hair, so that I didn’t have to use as much heat on it, as well as soft, healthy looking (and feeling) hair. My hair never feels dry, damaged, or lifeless when I use this treatment. I remember one day that I used it recently, I actually thought to myself “I basically have Jennifer Aniston hair right now”, which is highly appropriate since she is the face of the brand.
Most days I will add a bit of the PHD 5-in-1 Styling Treatment after applying a leave-in-conditioner to my hair (though it also works well alone), and blow dry it within an hour (depending on how quickly I have to get ready). Then I either use a straightener to smooth out any wave, and give it a uniform look, or add some loose curls with my curling wand. I find that my hair stays smooth and straight throughout the day if I’ve straightened it, and it doesn’t get very oily (which it normally does). In fact, on day two, there are times when I can get away without any dry shampoo at my roots, which used to be unheard of.
If you are looking for a fuss-free product free of silicones, oil and other not-so-good stuff (like parabens, sulfates and phthalates), something that will help to give you that perfect at-home blow out, and blends easily with your other favourite hair products, this is the one for you!
Have you tried the 5-in-1 Styling Treatment or any of the PHD line? Which Living Proof products would you recommend? I definitely need to try more!
