A Berry Good Lip Combination

berrygoodlipcomboI love the look of dark berry looks this time of year. The only problem is I’ve learned that lipsticks with purple undertones don’t always look so great on my skin tone. I’ve tried to find a nice pink-based berry, but wasn’t having any luck for a long time, so I thought that I would just continue on with my bright pink lips, with the occasional red lip. And then I saw this lipliner from Milani and decided to try a little experiment.

berrylipcombination2For the past few weeks, when I’ve wanted to go bold on the lips, I’ve used this combination and love it. If you’re following me on Instagram, then you’ve likely seen it a few times. Starting with the Milani Color Statement Lipliner in Fuchsia, I line my lips completely. This lipliner is beauty fuchsia-berry tone and really creamy. If I’m having a bit of a dry lip day, I’ll start off with a balm beforehand to keep my lips from drying out throughout the day (I do this with all my lipsticks, actually). Next, I put Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 107 on top. On it’s own, this colour is a little too dark for me, though it does have more of red undertone than a purple one, it can still make me look a little dead without the right amount of bronzer or colour of blush. Somedays I leave it with these two, but adding the third step makes it even better. My final step in this layering technique is adding a bit of the Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss in Fabulous Fuchsia (33) over top. This lipgloss is quite pigmented, and is a good match for the Milani lipliner (I will wear the two together without the lipstick if I want a lighter, not-s0-vampy lip). The lipgloss adds dimension to the matte lipstick, makes it a bit lighter in colour, and builds the colour to make it last even longer.

rimmellondon107I’m glad that I can finally participate in this trend, and that I’ve found a new lipliner brand to try out. I have a few other lipsticks that I want to experiment with to see how the Fuchsia liner will transform them. I might have to pop over to Superstore to try more Milani products soon…
