The Weekend Post | 01.03.16

weekendpostIt’s the first weekend of 2016! I hope you are having a wonderful 2016 so far. Mine has been good, but I’ve also been battling a cold (likely thanks to my niece), so it hasn’t been the best. Since I didn’t do a weekend post last week, I feel like I’ve missed a lot. But, we’ve had two pretty relaxed weeks, so you haven’t missed much.

christmas jammiesWe had a lovely Christmas, spending Christmas Eve by going to the annual Live Nativity, opening our Christmas pyjamas, and watching Ant-Man. We’ve decided that it will now be a Christmas Eve tradition to watch a Marvel movie. It will likely be whatever Christopher gets for his birthday, since his birthday is six days before Christmas, and there will be no shortage of Marvel movies over the next few years. On Christmas day, we woke up early (8:00 for me), opened stockings and exchanged gifts before going to my parents’ house to make buns for the Craig family dinner. Since my siblings were out-of-town on Christmas day, we postponed our Christmas to the week after, so we spent the day with Christopher’s family rather than splitting up the day like we normally do. On Boxing Day, we had our traditional waffles and games at my parents, and my in-laws joined us for that too. I look forward to my dad’s waffles every six months (since he makes them when we watch General Conference), and Boxing Day is the bonus day of waffles.

Thankfully he doesn’t have too much work to do on those days (he’s an IT analyst), but he has to stay home, by the computer ready to help out clients when they need it, so we couldn’t go out.

On Wednesday, we had Christmas with my family. We exchanged gifts (most of them were for the kids since we draw names between my siblings and their spouses now), and had a potluck of crock pot dishes. A few of us stayed overnight, and enjoyed a relaxing morning the next day. That night, Christopher and I spent time at his parents’ house eating fondue, playing more games and watching TV. On New Year’s Day, we went back to my parents for family pictures, which we didn’t get around to on our Christmas evening together. Taking pictures with all 12 of us (that sounds crazy, since we started out with five) is becoming an interesting feat, but it is nice that my dad has his photography equipment set up at their house so we can do our photos in their living room.

Yesterday was a much-needed rest day, as it seems like every day we’ve had something else to do. Being able to watch old episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Netflix and wait until 5:00 pm to shower is quite the luxury during the holidays, so I will always take advantage of it. I will back with my favourite links next week!

I hope you have had a great start to 2016 and enjoy this beautiful Sunday!
