Subtle Valentine’s Day Nails | Mani Monday

subtlevalentinesdaynailsAs much as I love doing my nails, I’m not very good at it. I’m pretty sure it was only within the last year that I figured out how to avoid getting nail polish all over my skin or smudging the polish. This is why the closest I get to nail art is using stickers or painting one nail a different colour. I would normally just paint my nails pink or red and call it good, but I thought I would try to branch out a little this year and try something new. After scouring Pinterest for tutorials, I was inspired by this one and this one to try something understated and simple, and came up with this easy Valentine’s day inspired nail art.

Starting with a neutral base, I painted all my nails using Essie’s Urban Jungle (any neutral or sheer colour will work well). Do as many coats as you want (I usually do two or three depending on the formula). After adding a top coat and everything is completely dry, you’re ready to add a little art.

valentinesdaynailsdiyTake a toothpick and dip it in your bottle of red or pink nail polish (I used Essie’s Lollipop). You can also just take the brush and paint the tip of it (this is especially helpful if you want to make your heart smaller). Next, simply take your toothpick and place it diagonally on your nail, and then again on the other side of that so that it resembles a heart shape. This may take a little practice to figure out (or maybe it was just me…), so you can also do it on a bare nail first. After that polish is dry, add another topcoat. Et voilà!
