Monthly Favourites | May 2016

mayfavouritesBefore we get too far into June (how is it already June 2nd, by the way?), I want to share a few of the beauty products that made my May even better.

mayfavouritesStila, Eyes are the Window Eye Shadow Palette. I have wanted to try this palette for quite a while now, and finally picked it up either at the end of April or beginning of May. It’s been my go-to for simple, neutral looks with a bit of sparkle. I now understand why everyone talks about how wonderful the shade “Kitten” is. I haven’t tried out the darker shades yet, but I will very soon, and will share a complete review with swatches as well.

Essie, Play Date. This was a re-discovery for me. This gorgeous purple shade is one of my favourites (maybe even top 5), and I always forget how much I love it until I put it on. It’s opaque, not too bright but not unnoticeable. It also makes me look tan, so that’s always something I love.

Revlon, ColorStay Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat. I’ve tried a lot of top coats in the last year, but this one (which I repurchased recently after finishing one months ago) is the best I’ve tried. It keeps my polish going strong, but unlike other gel top coats I’ve used in the past, it doesn’t thicken and get gloopy the longer that I use it. I think I will just stop the search now, and stick with this one for a while.

Clarins, Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster for Body. I fell in love with the original Golden Glow Booster (for face) last spring, and have been waiting for a while to try this one meant for the rest of the body since it was released last summer. The formula (as far as I can tell) is the same as the other one, so I still use it on my face (but only use 2-3 drops) most days, and occasionally on the rest of my body to give me a subtle glow (visible after 2 applications), add a base colour when I use tanning mousse, or to prolong my tan. It gives such a natural look to my skin, wears off really well and doesn’t smell bad so I don’t worry about applying it before I go out.

bareMinerals, Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. This is one of the best tinted moisturizers that I’ve used. It’s light, but gives a decent amount of coverage (for a tinted moisturizer), and makes my skin feel hydrated (as the name would suggest) without making me look oily. It also has an SPF 30, which is perfect for this time of year. Now I need to pick up a deeper shade for the summer (and my slightly darker self-tanned skin).

mayfavouritesRevlon, Volume+Length Magnified Mascara. As I mentioned in my Spring Makeup post, I’ve been testing out all of the new mascaras from Revlon recently (review coming next week). While I do like some more than others, this one is definitely my favourite. It delivers on the volume and length, and gives me lovely feathery lashes. It doesn’t clump (even with multiple coats) and doesn’t weigh my lashes down either, so they’re able to hold their curl better.

MAC, Ellie Goulding “Without Your Love” Lipstick. I haven’t had much time with this lipstick, but it’s already made it to my favourites list. The “warm seashell pink” shade is my new “my-lips-but-better” lipstick, and will likely be in my bag for the foreseeable future. I love the cremesheen formula, and that it isn’t too sheer that it’s unnoticeable, but not too strong that it doesn’t mess well with my lip colour. It’s also on sale on MAC’s website right now, so it’s a win-win …win.

Have you tried any of these products? What beauty bits were your favourite in May?
