Essie Gel Couture | Mani Monday

I’m a total Essie girl at heart, so of course I was counting down the days to their new Gel Couture launch. Though I’m not one to leave my polish on for more than a week at a time (I’m too indecisive for that), I do love long-lasting formulas, and had really high hopes for this new launch. Plus, that packaging, right?

The Gel Couture polishes are part of a two-step system, with a colour, followed by the gel couture top coat. They claim to last for 14 days and give instant gel-like shine. You don’t need a lamp to cure the colour, and they’re just as easy as a regular polish to remove. There are currently 55 colours available, but I have only tried 2 (as well as the top coat) so far (though that will change very soon). I decided to go with a greyish purple, Style in Excess and a bright red, Rock the Runway.essie-styleinexcess

essie-rocktherunwayThe first thing that I loved (because there are a few things) about these new polishes is the brush. The brush is thicker, and very similar to high-end polishes like NAILS INC. It’s also wider at the bottom, which makes the application so quick and easy, and mess-free. The formula is also really thick (as you’d expect from a gel polish), and goes on perfectly with two coats (though you could get away with one).

I can’t speak for the longevity on my nails, since as I said, I rarely leave my polish on for more than week. But, I have had Style in Excess on my toe nails since I bought it, which was about 2 or 3 weeks ago, and it is just now starting to lift a little. I think it’s safe to say that these polishes would certainly outlast any of Essie’s regular formulation, and are certainly worth a buy! Now that I know I love them, I need to pick up some more pronto! I currently have my eye on The It-Factor, Make the Cut and Signature Smile.

Have you tried these yet? What colours are you looking forward to trying?
