That title should actually read the times I Cried Watching the Oscars, because let’s be honest, there was more than one.
It’s been years since I’ve watched the Oscars live or even from start to finish. When I remembered that Neil Patrick Harris would be hosting, I knew I would be in for a treat — and treat us he did (that opening number, right?!)
For the most part, it was just like any other Oscars — just a bunch of pretty people, getting awards. But then, there were a few moments that were special — moments that touched my heart. There was Julianne Moore’s sweet tribute to her husband during her acceptance speech for winning Best Actress. However, nothing compared to Lady Gaga singing her tribute to The Sound of Music which turns 50 this year (crazy, right?).
When it was announced that Lady Gaga would be singing songs from The Sound of Music, I cringed a little bit inside. I’ve never been a fan of her music, and was scared that she would ruin something so beloved. But then she didn’t. I had no idea she had such a lovely voice. There were no tricks, no distractions — just beautiful music. My eyes filled with tears when she sang “Climb Every Mountain” (that one always gets me). But when Julie Andrews came out? Who was prepared for that sweet embrace? So touching.
It’s moments like that that remind me that we’re all just humans. We have disappointments, and triumphs — regardless of our what our day to day might look like.
