Recently, I’ve been having a bit of a cream shadow moment. My collection has steadily grown and I find myself reaching for my cream shadows over powder most days. I love the ease of applying them with my fingers (for most of them) and convenience of only needing one shade for a quick, but polished look. There are so many choices out there, from colours to formulas, so I thought I would share some of my favourites from my stash with you today.
When it comes to colour, my recent favourite has been FLOWER Beauty Color Play Crème Eyeshadow in Awesome Blossom. It’s different from the colours I generally gravitate towards, which I really like. It’s a dark, golden bronzed burgundy (sorry, I’m not very good at describing the colour) that applies lighter on the eyes than it looks in the pot. The formula is really, really creamy (kind of like a mousse), so I definitely need a primer with it, otherwise it will crease on me within the hour.
My go-to every day shades come in the form of golden brown and bronze shades. I have loved Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit. This beautiful golden brown shade goes on smooth, and actually stays on pretty well without primer, but I always use one out of habit and just in case. My other new favourite is Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Bronze Sugar from the limited-edition Bobbi’s Chocolates Trio (similar here). This is more intense than Birthday Suit, but still reserved enough that it’s easy to work with and is perfect for every day. I do have to apply this one with a brush, just because the packaging makes it harder to dip my finger in. Unfortunately it does crease on me, so I have to wear a primer. Another from the Bobbi’s Chocolates trio is the shade Praline (similar here). It’s creamy and smooth, just like Bronze Sugar and its light beige-y nude colour makes it the perfect canvas for other shades (especially the cream shadow sticks that I reviewed here). In terms of longevity, Maybelline Eye Studio Colour Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow in Inked in Pink and Barely Branded are my favourites. Though not as creamy as the others, they apply well and without any skipping, and really do last all day (I’m not sure about the 24 hours though). Inked in Pink and is beautiful champagne pink that is perfect for barely there makeup days, and looks best with a black-brown mascara and a bit of bronzer all over. Barely Branded is a bit too yellow of a gold for me to wear on its own very much, but it does work great underneath a light matte shadow for a hint of shimmer.
