I always want to buy new things for our home, especially when I feel like I have a handle on the organization side of things. Although I am quite happy with what we have in our home now, I am always happy to add a few things here and there to add something special. My wish list can generally get pretty long, so I’ve decided to rein it in and pick one or two things per room and focus on the things that we don’t already have, or things that would be a good investment in the long run. For the sake of today’s post, I’m not including large pieces of furniture (though they are definitely always on the list). These are the things that I hope we can add in the next few months, or maybe within the year. Some will obviously be easier to add than others, so I’m trying to remind myself that it can’t happen all at once, and that home decor is like a long journey — you make one step at a time.
One of the things that I really want to change up in our bedroom is our nightstands. The ones that we have right now really aren’t my taste, and I would love something with a drawer, and a little bit smaller than what we currently have so that I’m less likely to clutter it with nail polish bottles and books. I’ve looked around for quite a while, and have decided that these simple ones from IKEA would suit us just fine. And Christopher likes them too (we don’t always agree on home decor), so convincing him won’t be an issue.
The lighting in our living area, as we only have one ceiling light that isn’t the brightest and the corner of the room can get kind of dark. In our last place, we didn’t really have room for a floor lamp, so we never bought one. We definitely have room now, and I would love to add a cool oversized statement lamp like this.
I get really bored with our duvet covers, and I’ve been known to switch them up quite a bit. I would love a simple grey striped one like this, but lately I’ve been gravitating more towards classic white. I would love to have a white duvet or comforter, and add throw pillows and blankets in the mix for a pop of colour, or different texture. As much as I love this ruffled duvet from Urban Outfitters, I don’t think my husband (who really is a saint) would go for it. I think this herringbone duvet would suit us best, as the white makes it neutral, but the print adds some personality.
We can’t do much in our bathroom, as it is quite small, but I really want to add a print over the toilet (which is the only free wall) to add some colour and personality. I don’t want a typical washroom print (we can remember to flush, wash, brush and floss without a reminder), but I’m not sure if I want a quote or art. I’d love something from the Etsy shop, LifeAndStylePrint, like this one, or something like this mint striped print from Allyson Johnson.
As much as I feel like I have a handle on our organization, I can always improve it. One area that I would really like to step it up is our pantry. I would love to get some wire baskets to add some interest aesthetically, and also help keep everything from getting too cluttered. I love the look of these bronze baskets from H&M Home (if only they shipped to Canada!), or these simple ones, which also have a spot for labels (which of course I love).
