When December hits, I just want to wear red nails all the time. I love wearing red polish all year round, but now that it’s December, it’s the perfect way to be festive. Red is the perfect way to get you into the Christmas spirit, especially if you are like me and own two red sweaters and nothing else. I also love that there are a lot of great shades of red which are perfect for every skin tone, every outfit and every occasion. Today I am sharing just a few of my favourites from my collection.
Essie, Altitude Attitude. This red is the newest to my stash, and part of Essie’s Winter 2015 collection. This bright red has pink undertones, which are perfect for every day. This shade goes well with any outfit, especially something casual. It’s quite opaque and like most reds is perfect after two coats. I love this colour for early December before we get too close to Christmas as a way to dip your fingers into the red polish pool.
Essie, Lollipop. Of all the reds that I own, this is the most versatile one. In fact, I love this shade so much I’ve accidentally bought it three times when I already had it at home. This polish has the smoothest application and is never uneven. It’s really bright, but I don’t think it’s out-of-place at this time of year.
Essie, Really Red. The perfect rich red-red. It’s bright, but not too bright that it can’t be worn in the fall or winter, and not too dark that it comes across as vampy. This is my favourite for parties, or for days when I need a pick-me-up. It’s also the perfect shade for my toes, and honestly I will wear this shade all year round.
Essie, Forever Yummy. Described as a “creamy tango red”, this one is a classic. It’s dark, but not too dark, and a really good neutral toned red. This has been my favourite for a few years, and will always be at the top of my list when it comes to deep reds. This one applies really well after two coats and doesn’t have any uneven streaks at all.
Essie, A-List. This is my darkest Essie red at the moment. I love wearing this colour on my toes in the fall and winter, in fact it’s what I wore for the majority of September and October. My only issue with this one is that it can be a little streaky, so it can sometimes take three coats to make it even. But, that deep rich shade is worth all of the effort.
What is your favourite red? Do you wear more red at this time of year, or all year?
