5 Beauty Favourites

It’s been quite a while since I’ve shared a monthly favourites, and while I still don’t think it’s something I’ll start doing again (at least for the foreseeable future), I do have a few great beauty products that I need to share with you. Rather than sharing every single great product that I’ve loved in the last few months, I’ve picked five items that I keep going back to.

Laura Mercier, Radiance Foundation Primer ($45). I started using this primer after falling in love with the original (or maybe it was the hydrating one — I can’t remember which of those I tried first) and like the others, I loved it too. It was hidden in my collection, and recently started using it as my primer again. It gives the most natural “lit from within” effect of any radiance primer that I’ve tried. It’s been great for me this winter as I’ve been feeling that my complexion is much more dull than I would like. I’m also a big fan of the 50 ml size, which is nearly twice as much as you get from other primers.

Seche Vive, Instant Gel Effect Top Coat ($16). While I’ve downsized my nail polish collection and have found myself gravitating towards one or two specific shades (more on that in another post coming soon), I still paint my nails every week and am always on the hunt for the perfect top coat. A few months ago, I was sent this new gel top coat from Seche. I have used it almost exclusively since, as it works so well to keep my nails looking glossy without chips. If I didn’t spend a lot of time at home cleaning and looking after an active 2-year-old, I could probably go at least a week without any touch ups (it’s closer to 3-5 days for me now). I’ve never tried the cult favourite Seche Vite, so I can’t compare the two, but this one dries incredibly quickly and though the initial smell is not great, it doesn’t linger and the long-lasting formula is worth it.

Fresh, Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil ($68). I’m in the midst of trying to find the perfect nighttime moisturizer (I think my favourite from Kiehl’s is probably going to win that competition), so in between my sample trials (I’m also trying to get through my stack of Sephora order samples from the last few years), and on days when my skin needs a top up, I’ve been using this face oil from Fresh. I tried it a few years ago, and have since compared it to every other oil that I use. It smells amazing, sinks into my skin immediately and makes it feel hydrated, but never too wet or sticky.

Revlon, Matte Balm in Passionate ($9). This one is another rediscovery for me. Although I tend to wear nude/neutral lipstick or gloss the majority the time, on days when I want something extra, this lovely fuchsia shade has been my go-to. I like having it in my purse because for some reason, I always find lipsticks in stick form easier to apply on the go. Also because of the matte formula, it’s long wearing (but incredibly comfortable) so I don’t have to worry about what I’ll be eating or drinking later in the day.

ogx, Coconut Miracle Oil Lotion ($10). I usually don’t experiment with too many body lotions because I’ve discovered my favourites years ago, and my skin likes it when I keep it basic in the hydration department. However, a month or two ago while making my grocery order online for pickup (on a side note, this is one the best inventions of the 21st century), I found this lotion from ogx and decided to give it a try. It was better than I was expecting, and I was expecting it to be pretty good. It smells delightful and hydrates my skin all day, giving it a lovely healthy sheen (sans glitter). I actually had to put some on just now to remind myself how good it smells and feels.
