About a month ago, I finally made my first order from Glossier. Glossier is a brand created by the founder of Into the Gloss, Emily Weiss, and is based out of the US. Glossier has a huge online presence right now and if you’re a beauty lover of any degree, you’ve probably heard of them. They currently have a showroom in New York and occasional pop-up shops in other cities, so for us Canadian girls without frequent flyer miles, everything is available online. Glossier’s philosophy is “skin first. makeup second”, which is something that I am completely on board with.
There are so many products to try and I could have done a huge haul to try everything, but I decided instead to start small and try three products that I was most curious about. I picked up the Milky Jelly Cleanser ($22), the Cloud Paint in Puff ($18) and the Boy Brow in Blond ($20). I’ve been testing all three for the past month to get a good idea of how I like them and how they work with my routine. Keep reading to find out what my thoughts are on each product.
The Milky Jelly Cleanser ($22) is a creamy gel face wash that can be used both as a first cleanse (to remove makeup) or second cleanse (morning cleanse or post makeup cleanse). Though it’s okay as a makeup remover, I prefer other products for that, so I use it exclusively as a morning cleanse and second cleanse in the evening after I remove my makeup. The formula is incredibly gentle and soothing. It never makes my skin feel dry or tight and it doesn’t leave any residue. I think that this cleanser is actually my favourite now and will be repurchasing when I run out.
The Cloud Paint ($18) is a gel-cream blush that is unlike any other cream blush that I’ve used in the past. The shade Puff is a light, cool pink and the perfect “just flushed” shade for me. This blush is seamless in how it blends and is also buildable so that I never end up with far too much on my cheeks. You need the smallest amount of product, so the $18 price tag is well worth it. The Cloud Paint also comes in Dusk (brownish-nude), Beam (coral-peach) and Haze (deep berry). If you want to try more than one, you can buy any two and save $8, which is a great deal. I plan to try Dusk and Beam with my next order.
The Boy Brow ($20) has become a cult product over the last few years (I believe it was the first product they launched) that is both an eyebrow filler and shaper. The pigment adds colour and fullness to brows while the gel adds definition and keeps your brow hairs in place (without that extra crispy feeling). I used to be loyal to Benefit’s Gimme Brow (which I thought had been discontinued, but it’s not) but since using the Boy Brow these past few weeks, my loyalties have changed. This product is magic for my brows, especially when used with my favourite brow pencil for extra definition. Blond is the perfect shade for me as I don’t like my brows to be too dark and it matches my roots pretty well. My only complaint is that there is a lot of product in that tiny tube, so I have to wipe off a lot of it before I use it, but it’s a small price to pay for making my over-plucked brows look fuller. The Boy Brow is also available in Brown, Black and Clear.
I was never that skeptical about whether or not I would like Glossier’s products, but I have been very pleasantly surprised at how much I love them. I’m looking forward to trying more products in the future and will share my thoughts with you when I do.
