If you’ve paying attention to my Instagram this summer, then you may already have noticed that I’m having a bit of a purple moment when it comes to my nails. I recently reorganized my stash and found that I actually have a lot of purple shades (they rival my pinks). From the lightest lilacs to plums to deep burgundy, I basically have it all. Today I’m sharing five of my favourites.
REVLON Colorstay, Provence. First, the formula and the brush of the Revlon Colorstay polishes is fantastic. These are my second favourite drugstore polishes (obviously Essie is first). Provence is a lovely pale lilac. It’s perfect for those of us who love a good neutral, but want something new. I’m not sure that you can find this in stores anymore, as I did buy it at least 2 years ago, but you can find it online. Essie’s Lilacism is similar, though it has less of a grey undertone.
Essie, Play Date. This was in my June favourites, so my love for this shade has already been documented, but I need to share more. This is my perfect summer purple. It’s bright, but not overbearing. This soft purple is so gorgeous, I’m thinking of taking off my current polish right now, just to put this one on. This is also a great toe shade, if you’re not a fan of brighter colours on your fingers.
REVLON Colorstay Gel Envy, Up the Ante. Last year, Estée from Essie Button raved about this polish, so I grabbed it as soon as I found it in the store. This vivid colour is a great transition shade as we get closer to fall. It’s bright, but again not overbearing. It’s the kind of shade that once I put it on, I can’t stop looking at my nails because it’s so beautiful. Also, because it’s the gel envy formula, it really does last a long time. You can supposedly go without a base coat with this one, because it’s a 2-in-1, but I still use a base coat.
Essie, Big Spender. This red-toned violet is another great shade for transitioning to fall. It’s darker than the other shades, but not as dark as others like Bahama Mama. The red-tone makes it different and fun. I have loved wearing this on my toes lately (see it in action here). Now I really would like to find a lipstick in this shade!
Essie, Bahama Mama. This is my favourite fall shade (other than my greys). This deep plum is so gorgeous, but not too dark that it looks black in certain lighting (if you’re a big fan of those, Carry On is a great one). It’s showing slightly darker in the photo, as it is definitely more plum than burgundy. Like some other dark shades, this one does require patience and skill when applying (two things I lack) as it can go on a little patchy if you’re not careful.
What is your favourite purple polish? Have you been obsessed with any specific colours this summer?
