I received my Birchbox and Ipsy bag the other day, and want to share the contents with you today. As you may remember from last month, I was not impressed with Birchbox at all (so much I didn’t share it in my post), and was happy with my ipsy bag. After this month’s contents, and going over the pros and cons, I have decided to end my subscriptions for now. Before I do that though, here are the contents of my recent unboxing.
Batiste, Dry Shampoo (Blush). I already know that I love Batiste dry shampoo, so I am excited to now have a mini for travel, or to throw in my purse. I’m not crazy about this scent, as I definitely prefer the tropical one, but it’s not so strong that it would bug me all day.
Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics, Eye Shadow Primer. I love a good eye shadow primer, so I’m looking forward to trying this and seeing how it compares to my favourite (and other favourite). I’m pretty sure KathleenLights has talked about this before, so I’m sure it’s a good one.
Hikari Cosmetics, Lip Gloss in Salsa. I’m really not a big fan of red lip glosses, so I wasn’t too excited when I saw this one. It is quite pigmented, but it’s more like a pale-ish red than a classic red. I will keep it and give it another try though, as it might go well on top of some of my darker red lip sticks.
Pencil Me In Cosmetics, Natural Eyeliner Pencil in Boysenberry. This is a navy pencil eyeliner. The colour itself isn’t bad, but the formula is terrible. It’s not creamy but instead rather patchy and it smells like a pencil crayon. The only good thing about it though is that it has a sharpener built into the cap, so I will at least keep that for my other eyeliner pencils.
Lord & Berry, Nude Lipliner. The formula of this lipliner doesn’t seem too bad. However, it’s definitely more of a brown nude than a pink nude, so I’m not sure how well it will work for me. I will try it out though, but I’m not expecting too much.
Amika, Nourishing Mask. I’ve never tried any Amika products, but have always wanted to because Kate from The Small Things talks about them all the time. Since my hair is prone to dryness, I’m always looking for a good hair mask. I’m excited to try this one out and hope it smells as good as it smells.
Curl Keeper, Ultimate Hold Gel with Frizz Control. I haven’t used gel to style my curly hair for about ten years, so I’m not really sure how I feel about this one. I will definitely try it though as it promises to give holding power “without flakiness or crispiness”.
Laqa & Co., Cheeky Lip in Cray-Cray. While I love the idea of this multi-use product (for lips and cheeks), I’m not crazy about the colour. This coral shades veers on the side of orange, which I know does not work on my lips. I will try it on my cheeks though, as coral blushes are always pretty. The formula seems really smooth and creamy though, I just wish I was given one of the other colours.
St. Tropez, Gradual Tan In Shower. I already know that I like this product (you can read my review here), so I’m happy to have another tube of it, even if it is a tiny one.
Crabtree & Evelyn, Ultra-Moisturizing Hand Therapy (Gardeners). This lotion makes my hands super soft, and I love the packaging (it’s the same as my current travel hand cream). I’m not in love with the smell, but it’s really not bad at all. This is great for my nightstand, or to throw in my purse for on-the-go.
Obviously, Birchbox won this month, which is funny as I cancelled my subscription last month and I was not expecting this month’s box to come. I wish that we these subscription boxes weren’t so hit or miss lately, but I guess that’s what happens when you’re not the one picking the products. From what I can tell, Glossybox seems to be the best one currently shipping to Canada (Boxycharm is the best overall, I think, but is only available in the US), but I think I will take some time off from subscription boxes before trying that one.
Have you tried any of these products? What did you get in your boxes this month?
