As much as I am ready for sweater weather, warm scents, and cozy scarves, I’m not quite ready to trade in my pink lips for deep berries and plums just yet. September is one of those transition months, as I get used to waking up to cool air in the mornings, and seeing the sun set a little earlier each day (this makes me really sad), so I think I will be transitioning my lip colours rather than jumping into the deep end (see what I did there?) right away. I’ve gathered a few picks from my collection from the very light to the very bright, from glossy to matte.
For those who love light pinks and nudes in the summer, sticking with nude shades is still great for fall, but adding something with a brown tone into the mix makes it more appropriate. I’m personally not a fan of these shades all the time, but the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien has enough pink in it and a slightly glossy finish that makes it wearable. If you want to start heading toward berry tones, but want something easy and wearable, Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Colour Rush Balm in Viva Violet or Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in Berry Couture are perfect. Berry Couture is more of a pink berry, whereas Viva Violet is closer to a traditional berry tone, but balmy texture makes it perfect for an early autumn shade.
If you’re feeling bold, but aren’t quite ready for deep plums and reds, the new Maybelline Color Blur Creamy Matte Pencil in Berry Misbehaved or Sephora’s Color Lip Last in Royal Raspberry are perfect. Berry Misbehaved is quite versatile as it can be worn plainly all over the lips, or “blurred” out with the applicator on the edge for a more effortless and stained appearance. It also has more of a red undertone compared to Royal Raspberry which is perfect matte fuchsia.
