Though my husband would have you believe that I only love expensive things (it’s mostly true), I have been really enjoying trips to the drugstore over department stores and Sephora lately, partly because of budget reasons, and largely because Shopper’s Drug Mart has improved their points system so much recently. I never really share hauls on the blog, but I thought I would today, because there are a few things I want to share, and I’m not sure if I’ll get around to reviewing them all individually. Some of these items are from a larger trip I did right before school started (which also included a bunch of things for Christopher), and some are from a smaller trip from this week. I definitely bought more than this, but these were the ones I had readily available and honestly I can’t remember half of the other things I bought.
I finished a L’Oreal shampoo and conditioner recently, and while I still have giant bottles of my favourites, I have wanted to try and find a budget friendly option, and the new L’Oreal Paris Hair Expertise Extraordinary Oil Shampoo and Conditioner seemed perfect. I’m really hoping it will add some much needed moisture to my hair (which desperately needs a trim, but I don’t want to cut it!) and keep it nice and soft. I will definitely report back once I’ve tried it out.
Essie recently released a new top coat, The Gel Setter. I’m actually surprised it took them so long to come out with a gel top coat, since it seems every other drugstore brand has one right now. I have wanted to try it since it came out earlier in the summer, but held off because I still had a top coat I was happy with, but it’s now on its last legs, so it was time for a change. Of course I also had to pick up a few new (to me) Essie shades as it’s a rarity that I walk out of the drugstore without one in my bag. I got Chinchilly, which you would have seen in my post last week about transitioning nail polish to fall. I used to have it years ago and loved it, but it must have gotten lost in one of my moves or I accidentally threw it out, so I had to get another one once I realized I didn’t have one in my collection. I also got A-List, a beautiful, deep red that I had painted on my toes when I got a pedicure with my mom and sisters last month for our monthly girls night. I also added Plumberry to my collection. Every time I’ve seen it in the store, I would think, “I need this” but would convince myself that I already had something like it in my collection, so I would always talk myself out of it, until now. I’m looking forward to wearing this
I’ve recently discovered essence cosmetics this year, and have been really impressed with everything that I’ve tried so far. I decided to pick up one of their Metal Glam Eyeshadow in Hello Goldie! It’s not the most intense colour, but I thought it would be really pretty all over the lid for a soft sparkly effect. I also ran out of my clear brow gel this week, so I needed another one and decided to try the Lash & Brow Gel Mascara. The consistency seems pretty standard, so we’ll see how I get on with it. I also picked up their duo-sharpener, since I didn’t seem to have one anymore, which isn’t that surprising since I rarely wear any eyeliner. And finally from essence, I got the Gel Nail Polish Base Coat, which promises ultra long-lasting shine. I’m nearly finished my favourite base coat, but wanted to try something from the drugstore before repurchasing it. I’m hoping that it will work well with my new top coat, and make my mani last even longer (though I’m still likely to change it within a few days).
And lastly, I have repurchased my current favourite concealer, the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer (in Fair). I really love this concealer, and was super sad when I finished it this week. It has a good coverage, but blends well and doesn’t make me look cake-y or settle into any of my fine lines around my eyes (yes, I do have fine lines around my eyes). I’m really hoping that everything else that I buy will be as good as this concealer!
Have you tried any of these products? What have you picked up recently from the drugstore?
